Hmm, good question, I haven't checked it in a while, but that's definitely not normal.
For all I knew, it was just a miror to e621 with a SFW flag set to filter images and ads, it sure seems odd that their servers would be overloaded and not the e6 ones.

It does not work. I don't use proxies, so I can't browse neither from mobile data or WiFi. Iirc, Parasprite said they were doing something there, but that was some time ago nvm, t'was Spight who said that (in forum #167126)

Well, you can link someone to e926 and get less weird looks, seeing how trying to explore the site won't get them any explicit or questionable results.
There's also the fact that the ads are filtered, so they won't get assaulted with images of dragon dildos and disturbingly erotic illustrations by Narse.

OP lives in Iran, heavy Internet censorship. Sure, he can proxy, but it's probably going to be slower and be a potential security risk.

503 is not always a sign of overload but simply of unavailability, plus they may very well be running on different servers, even if the image servers are the same.

~3 or 4 years ago. It's kind of abandoned now since derpibooru came along, but (iirc) they are still on the same servers as e6.

It's kind of hard to explain, but I'll try to make an analogy.

Imagine that e9 is a chess player with the ability to keep track of hundreds of games at a time without breaking a sweat. Now imagine that e9 was suddenly told to be an extremely anxious person. A player would start a game of chess by moving a pawn forward and e9 would get overwhelmed, ragequit, and flip the table, scattering chess pieces and loose HTML tags across the floor in the process.

We just had to give e9 some Ativan and tell it that everything is going to be okay. Now e9 is back to playing chess like a pro.

By experience, I think parasprite meant that the devs either missed, switched or forgot escaping a quote
