@furballs_dc: Oh wow, I never knew all that. That was the first system I played doom on, I still have it too except my game cartridge is red.

I also have quake for the n64 which was the first game I bought myself. I wonder if there's a video about that port too.

    @bipface: Dont forget the moon. The moons own gravity affects the tides and stuff. The sun does affect us to a very miniscule degree. Tidal force plays a role here. Pretty sure you jump higher during the day.

    also consider: what if the entire solar system is moving in the opposite direction?
    or the galaxy?

    the sun's gravity might affect you though, e.g. if you jump during the day vs. during the night

    I think it would be the same. Gravitational pull is uniform everywhere. (assuming spherical symmetry)
    However the earth is not perfectly symmetrical and has gravity that is weaker at the equator and at high altitudes.
    You would be weightless if you were at the center of the earth. (ignoring the extreme heat at the earths core)

    honestly i couldn't find any decent rationale either,
    this article is quite adamant that gravitational radiation travels at the speed of light
    i guess because otherwise it could be considered faster-than-light communication which is illegal

    depending on how you think of it, up to the speed of light (or possibly even greater)

    if you're sitting on an event-horizon and accelerate up to what would be the speed of light in the opposite direction, you'll be stationary
    (but zooming through time at sqrt(2) seconds per second, i think?)

    i say possibly greater because if you pass the event horizon you'll still be moving towards the gravity even if you have that speed-of-light momentum

    I simply adore my government's new plan to beef up national security and target cross-border smuggling, especially of illegal firearms: cutting $390 million from the Canadian Border Services Agencency budget over the next 2 years.

    I suppose they will need the funds to begin an Australian-style firearms buyback program of (formerly) legal hunting firearms, estimated @ up to a billion dollar pricetag; nothing cuts down on gang violence like confiscating bolt-action rifles from law-abiding, licensed owners.
