A deadly disease of mammals. It causes a nearly 100% fatal brain inflammation, along with agonizing symptoms such as violent throat spasms when drinking that often cause victims to become afraid of water; "hydrophobia" is an archaic name for the disease.
The most famous symptoms are irrational aggression and foaming at the mouth, but rabies can also cause wildlife to be more friendly than normal as their fear of people fades away. The disease is primarily spread through the bites of infected animals.
Vaccination before symptoms start is almost 100% successful in preventing illness. Once symptoms start, the victim is almost invariably a dead animal or person walking.
