Character: khonshu
Khonshu aka, transliterated Chonsu, Khensu, Khons, Chons or Khonshu; is the Egyptian God of the Moon.
He was depicted either as a falcon in contrast to Ra or as a human child with teal skin in contrast to Horus. Both version of him wore the moon disk on their head.
Khonsu's name means 'traveler' and therefore reflects the fact that the Moon travels across the night sky.
He appears as a minor figure in the Egyptian Creation Myth: When Ra, King of the Gods made a Heavenly Decree that granddaughter Nut (Goddess of the Sky) was not allowed to have sex with or give birth to the children of Geb (God of the Earth) during any of the 360 days in the Egyptian Calendar year. Thoth (God of Writing and Wisdom) and bet his soul against Konshu in a game of Senate in exchange for his moonlight. Thoth manages to absolutely destroy him and manages to earn 5 days worth of moonlight in which the moon is completely invisible during the year. Thoth then takes his winnings and adds them to the Egyptian Calendar Year creating 5 extra days, which Nut uses to rapidly conceive and give birth to Osiris, Isis, Nepthys, Set, and Horus the Greater, rounding out the Great Anead.
