Character: teumessian vixen
The Teumessian vixen was an enormous fox that, according to Greek mythology, was destined to never be caught. It was sent by the gods to punish the people of Thebes for some national crime by preying upon their children. The city's Regent, Creon, set Amphitryon, stepfather to the future hero Hercules, the impossible task of destroying the vixen. Amphitryon discovered the perfect solution by using Laelops, a magical hound destined to catch everything it chased. Realizing the situation wouldn't end well due to its paradoxical nature, the chief of the gods Zeus turned the two beasts into stone and then placed in the stars as the constellations Canis Major (Laelops) and Canis Minor (the Teumessian vixen).
