post #1818030 post #727597 post #3139960 post #3513747
A wholly original image made to resemble a screen capture of an animation, film, video recording, video game, website, or computer screen — while not actually being a screencap.
Features of a Fake Screencap
Note: not every fake screencap will have all of these features
Miscellaneous
- style emulation — art that is drawn or rendered in a way that emulates the visual style of a particular piece of media or genre/medium, can include using the same materials/medium, and use of filters
- on model — a character drawn in a way that is nigh-indistinguishable from their source material
- dialogue in subtitles or dialogue boxes, usually written to imply the fake screencap was taken mid-sentence
Television/Video Elements
- 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratios — to emulate the aspect ratio of old television/film (4:3), or mimic a widescreen television or computer monitor's aspect ratio (16:9).
- letterbox — black bars at the top and bottom of the image
- subtitles — usually in yellow or white text with black borders, or white text on a black bar (to resemble television closed captioning, sometimes even starting with a "-" or ">>>")
- vhs filter — grain, static, colour fading, and chromatic aberration added to an image to resemble a frame from a video cassette recording
Video Game Elements
- user interface — buttons or prompts, option menus, scroll bars, minimize/maximize/close buttons
- gameplay mechanics — UI from video games, such as health or status bars, character portraits etc.
- dialogue box — contains dialogue in a fake screencap of a video game
- fake video game cutscene screencaps might use subtitles instead of dialogue boxes
