Species: mon calamari
Mon Calamari (/mɒn kæləˈmɑːɹi/) — an amphibious humanoid alien species from the Star Wars franchise.
The Mon Calamari are an amphibious bipedal species from Mon Cala, an oceanic planet orbiting a binary star system in the Outer Rim's Calamari sector, which they share with the Quarren (who call the planet "Dac"). While humanoid in shape, the species is very fish-like in appearance and biology.
Members of the species have a frog or goldfish-like visage, possessing a bulbous domed head with a wide thick-lipped mouth; a saggy chin; and two proptosed eyes. In Legends, their eyes can move independently and see in wavelengths beyond the colors seen by human eye. Their hairless skin comes in a variety of colors (usually shades of oranges; browns; or pinks, but some as vibrant as white; blue; or green) often mottled with a similarly-varied markings. With age said markings will fade, as will barbels grow from their lower lip regardless of gender. Female Mon Calamari have thinner body structures than males, and two breast-like structures on their chests, despite that the Mon Calamari reproduce through eggs in large clutches. It is possible for a Mon Calamari to hybridize with a Quarren.
Mon Calamari have webbed hands and feet. Their hands have three suction cups on the palm and five clawed fingers: middle and ring fingers longer than the others; an opposable thumb with two barbs on the underside; and in some cases, a small protrusion that appears to be a vestigial sixth finger. Their flipper feet have six toes of three different lengths, and are flexible and sturdy enough for Mon Calamari to wear, stand, and walk around in boots. They also have small fins running the length of their calves and forearms. With these, Mon Calamari are excellent swimmers, being able to swim up to 30 meters below sea level without needing to decompress their bodies, unlike the Quarren who can dive a magnitude deeper into Mon Cala's depths.
