Use this tag when sound effects are incorporated as part of a dialogue segment.
General guidelines
- Do not use for any image with just dialogue and sound effects. The themes need to be paired together. Check examples, and common usages.
- Do not assume that all effects paired with dialogue are sound effects. Some are better described as a vocalization.
A good rule is to ask yourself if it is best described as a grunt, or moan, it probably isn't a sound effect.
If the concept doesn't fit under this tag, it might apply as interrupted by reaction, which applies to both sound effects and vocalizations.
Sound effects that commonly apply
- All forms of breathing noises ("Gasp", "Huff", "Pant", "Sigh", etc.)
- Burping
- Hiccuping
Methods
- Interrupted speech
- Preceding, or trailing dialogue (being in a speech bubble that is part of a dialogue chain qualifies)
- Being near dialogue in a way that suggests it occurs during the dialogue, usually the sound effect is placed in an unnatural location.
