The skull is the bone structure of the head, including the bones of the face, and forms a cavity for the brain.

When used alone, this tag often describes "actual skulls", a full or partial skull of a previously living being that is present in a scene, it may also describe depictions of the skull in an anatomical cross section, or a radiograph, it can also describe skulls created artificially, for decoration or anatomical/medical reference (e.g. a throne with carved skulls, or a decorative, fake skull on a bookshelf).

Note that not all of the tags bellow involve an actual skull

holding_skull - a character using their hands, feet, tail, or other appendages to hold a skull
skull_(marking) - naturally occurring markings resembling skulls on/in the skin, fur, scales, etc. of a character's body
skull_accessory - fashion accessories that resemble skulls, or actual skulls used as accessories
skull_and_crossbones - a symbol of a skull above or over top of a pair of crossed bones
skull_face paint - a character's face painted to resemble a skull
skull_hat - Any hat with a skull inspired design.
skull_head - a character with a bare skull for a head

exposed_skull - A character with a (partially or entirely) peeled off face.

skull_helmet - a skull-shaped helmet or an actual skull being used as a helmet.
skull_mask - a character wearing a skull or parts of a skull as a facial covering
skull_pauldron - A skull-shaped shoulder armor or an actual skull being used as one.
