In the context of e621, this tag is used for characters doing things suggesting that they know of or interact with their real-world origins. Common variants include consuming the media that they originate from (such as a video game character playing their own game), reacting to (usually lewd or otherwise shocking) fan art of themselves, or breaking the fourth wall to address the actions of their fandom.
