  • Amazing. One of the best comics I have ever read. Though somehow I kinda wish they could have stayed together, the end had a nice emotional tone

  • See, i dont get this explicit rating. there is a slit they are not going down on each other. People dont cover animals up because they stupidly think it is wrong so why should this be any different?

I know what you mean... My poor feels.

Genitalia (including genital slits), anuses, cum, sexual actions, sex toys, certain OVERT violence, and all gore all get rated explicit. If we rate differently, then certain sensitive material can slip through and can start a rating war because of opinion on what is explicit and questionable. Hence why it gets specified in rating help

Or so I'm used to hearing. Other people can interpret it differently, but the rating remains the same.

  • Honestly, while the ending was fairly emotional, she was a fair bit of a bitch throughout, even at the end. Though I do feel sad for her, since she doesn't SEE what's wrong with what she says.

  • Well she got what she wanted from the start. I suppose she is way too damaged to expect some sort of huge change from her. This is a sad but realistic ending

  • I don't think it's that sad. She's a massive bitch, so of course she doesn't get a healthy relationship with her son.

At best she'll have an heir she can raise in secret somehow to eventually depose her husband with or whatever she's planning.

  • Honestly I think she's written very well. Some people are thinking she's just written to be a mouthy bitch and nothing more, but if that were true, it would be much more painfully obvious and her character wouldn't be believable.

But the comments are FULL of people who are practically seething with anger at her. At a fictional character.

If your character can draw in emotion like that, I'd say it's a damn fine character, likable or not.

  • I wouldn't say the ending was sad. Bittersweet is a much more fitting term for it. And sure, the ending looks at little anticlimactic, but either way it's done in a way to give you feels regardless.

I, as opposed to many here, don't hate Vera for acting the way she does, she seems like a character that is in fact broken on the inside but doesn't want to seem weak in front of others, especially being a dragon of her status (What with her being a Queen and all), so she hides it, and hides it behind such a demeanor many here are classifying as 'bitchy', or 'cynical'.
I like her even with such flaws, she's such a believable realistic character. I too hope at some point her relationship with Kindle gets better at one point or another, nothing was said that they'll never see eachother again, he just didn't want her in his cave/territory, especially if she was gonna talk like that.

All and all, as a FF fan it makes me happy to see this comic develop and finally finish, I can see it as one of the better ones on e621, there's character development, plot, gorgeous art, and a good amount of smut, nothing clashes, and plot and porn were done in a way not many smutty comics do it, it mixed in really well, usually the porn comics I've seen have a hard time mixing both together, ESPECIALLY plot, without it being thrown in or half-assed. I can name few artists that I follow that draw great but make some sucky comics because of a thrown in plot that makes no sense, all over the place and just flat out ruins the comic, so this is a breath of fresh air.

Great work Otterface and Sef, you really outdid yourself this time. :3

  • Im rewriting this to clarify an earlier comment.

Props to the artists for finishing but, your ending doesnt mesh with the obvious character arc you were building around the time Vera was crying over Kindle's toy. Clearly you were building up a change of heart by that point, and even at the end after Vera mouthed off and was shut down by Kindle, nothing changed. We made it to the end, the story didnt go anywhere though. Why put in that change of heart if nothing changed by the end of it? Its not that i can't accept a sad ending but if youre going to build up plot points, dont just forget about them by the end of it all. Clearly you wanted to make something more than just fap material but after all the events in the comic, its not that the ending is excessively sad, it just doesn't make sense.

I think it makes perfect sense. How many times do we want for conflict to end, but keep throwing fuel on the fire? Pride gets in the way, and no amount of regret over wrong choices can change that. I think we're too used to writers and their need to resolve things. Life isn't conveniently wrapped up in a morally satisfying way where everything comes full circle and there's justice in the end. I found this ending to be far more believable than one where years of pent up anger are forgotten just because they sexed it up.

  • Vera is a legitimately horrible person. Regardless of the racism in her opinions, she KNEW badmouthing gryphons would upset Kindle, but she just blabbed it all anyway. She either has absolutely no sense of empathy or just doesn't care and expects everyone to just lump it regardless of what she does to them.

In other words, exactly the kind of behavior she's furious at her husband for, waaaay back on page 10.

She's sad that her relationship is broken, but not upset that she had hurt Kindle.

  • I agree! A sequel is requested. There's so much more that can be don with this story. Indeed more Thistle, but perhaps through her Kindle's relationship with his mother is repaired, and she stops being so judgemental of gryphons in the process.

Kindle may have no interest in ruling, but all those females united against his father, and all his various lovers, Kindle gets a harem, Vera's relationship with Kindle deepens rather than grows more distant. And almost everyone gets what they want.

  • I believe that Vera was great in the way she was portrayed, and I can easily see more than a few reasons to why she acted as she did, all of which to me, show a good character creation. Rather than a usual shallow one that changes over a wooden doll, and sex. To me, she was acting 'bitchy' because perhaps she was instigating him on purpose maybe to make sure that he stayed even farther away. Perhaps so she could have more control over the new heir. Or maybe she didn't quite know how to cope with certain motions she's been without for so long. As the queen she had to keep him distant because of his relationship with the gryphon. If he's considered essentially an outcast of the family line, than it won't hurt anything politically. I for one only see how she acted, as the best course of action. She could have also tried to spur him on to get some more boning on.

I know that your comment is over three months old, but I want to thank you for what you said. It's exactly what makes stories such as this good, if not great. An ambiguous ending can make all of the difference if done right. In the words of the Nostalgia Critic:

"While you're at it, why don't you just clarify that Bambi's mom never died. That was a bit of downer, so why don't you clarify that she came back and they all lived happily ever after. Come to think of it, why don't you reveal whether or not the top falls over in Inception. Or why don't you just tell us what Bill Murray said to Scarlet Johanson. Or give away what was in the briefcase in Pulp Fiction. Because that's what life is made up of, right? Answers. Non-thought provoking answers."

  • I'm honestly surprised. It's been this long, and I still haven't seen a "rekindle their relationship" joke.

But, hey. It was great to revisit this after a while. Really makes you appreciate the effort put into it.

  • great comic, but the ending was a bit emotional, i would've chosen kindle to say something along the lines of, "you can come back whenever you want, mother" but just make it sound better, and also please make a sequel to this, this comic lays the foundation for a skyscraper of spinoffs, like the story of kindles father coming to power, kindles sisters or even an extention to this comic, just a thought, loved the comic btw.

  • Seen bits for a while, read it in entirety just now, the character of the mother was amazingly complex. She felt she needed an heir, but she covered her weaknesses and sensitivities beneath a thick hide. In all a fascinating and well thought out story. The bit with the toy was rather difficult to read (in a good way) I felt.

I thought I'd throw my opinion up. I personally agree with those that call it disappointing, just because, Yes I can understand some saying prejudice doesn't go away just because 2 characters sexed it up, but I also feel like any resolution could have been better than this, especially since the last scene seemed to be of them reconciling.

The other issue is that to me the emotions in it ruined the porn aspects where I was too sad at them to enjoy it. At least having a sweeter resolution could have fixed this by having the benefit of foresight on a subsequent reading. But NOPE, we get sad.

  • Given the personalities of the characters, it's understandable, but a somewhat disappointing ending.

Part over me really wanted Vera to get Kindle, learn to respect his relationship with Thistle, and stay with Kindle. Given that page with all those memory scenes, Kindle's father looks like he's turned into a bit of a jerk over the years. It certainly sounds like he neglects Vera and is the reason Kindle keeps his distance.

Her little coup d'état would be sweeter that way.

  • Man why are all these people gettin all sad, and why especially over Vera??
Vera was an ass, glad she got the boot, hope she never shows up in his cave again, though she probably will, if there is, and hopefully there will at some point, some kind of sequel. Good luck to her and her endeavors but get outa his cave and let him do what he likes with his griffin friend, man.

Edit: Damn I didn't know there already was practically a sequel! And with the griffin in it too!

  • I'd love to see a sequal where they get back together. You can't let such good characters be sad when they clearly love each other deep down.
This comic is so well written and emotionally complex that it bloody derves to be archived for future generations along with a few others on this site.

Well they still can, or at the very least they can patch up their relationship as best as possible. There has been absolutely zero confirmation that Vera is pregnant. The deal is that he get's her pregnant and she leaves him alone, forever. So if Vera isn't pregnant then that mean's that Kindle has not held up his end of the deal. She'd be able to approach him again. But with the current comic whose know's when we'll find out if she's pregnant or not.

I can only hope something happens in a future comic. Seeing a relationship be this fractured so as to be nigh irreparable just makes me sad and leaves me begging for things to be patched up between them. I'd like to see character development on Vera's part to a point where she isn't someone that Kindle hates. Broken and irreparable familial bonds like this are just.. not satisfying to me.

I agree. But with the current direction of the comics and the drop of interest, I see less and less people commenting and faving these comics on Furaffinity and Inkbunny, who knows what'll happen. Oo.

Unfortunately, Vera is a scheming dragoness who only visited Kindle so he could make her pregnant. If she had kept a civil tongue in her mouth when talking about Kindle's love, she might have been welcomed back in the future. However, Vera, like most mothers, didn't think her son had the ability to choose the "right" mate.
