Converting a jpg to png is never an acceptable thing to do. Please do not do that, ever.
Lossless "JPEG" formats do exist, but they are practically separate things. The above only refers to the original JPEG standard.

JPG is lossy, the original image cannot be recovered from it. Converting a JPG to a PNG won't make it look any better than the JPG you converted. You need the original PNG before it was JPG compressed.
