It is kinda interesting hearing Peppermint's voice coming from 808. Especially when she is copying Peppermint's mannerisms with her body language.

We do know 808 isn't just remote controlled, as evidenced by when you control her to fight the final boss for a bit.

Yeah that's what threw me off. If it's just Pep talking through 808, why does the body language always match the dialog? Is she controlling the cat as well?

Seeing as 808 doesn't talk by herself im guessing peppermint is saying all this

I believe so.

Although I just figured 808 is programmed to also mimic the person's inflections of their voice. Pep has a bit of sass in her tone so 808 acts accordingly.

Near the beginning of the game, peppermint says something along the lines of "808 likes you". You also can play with the cat while at a base. You don't need to get to the final boss to realize the cat has an autonomous mode.

Strangely, I find the idea that 808 is actually speaking in beeps, boops, and meows but ONLY Chai can understand EXACTLY what she is saying (even though he can't in canon) is pretty funny.

I can't help but think about that frisky-talking Vulpix from that one Plagueofgripes video.

What I meant is that she can act independently just like all the robots you fight can, and not basically be a roomba that has preset directives to act like a cat and follow x person. If she wasn't capable of full independent action, she wouldn't have been able to do what she did at the end, because she was neither being controlled or commanded.

It's just a stylistic choice to help you know who's talking through her. 808 has her own autonomous mode, if you've beaten the game you already know this because you actually play as her for a bit after everyone else is left helpless. However, she's both the anchor that lets the others teleport in and a communication device. The reason she mimics their inflections and gestures (not just of peppermint, but of the three other characters that speak through her from time to time too), is just to help you tell who's talking and add some additional flavor.

808 does have operate on its own though, and Chai seems able to talk to her for some reason in the little scenes when you interact with her.
