MemberGender ratios on starters make no sense.

MemberThe gender ratio for Popplio should have been reversed. Selkies, the inspiration for Primarina, are generally female with males being rare.

MemberOh! If he were to sing metal or rock, that would definitely be the Pokémon for me! XD
Furrin Gok
MemberSomebody apparently has a hardon for starter gender ratios, lemme upvote you to get rid of that red.
I definitely agree. Popplio and Chikorita should have been reversed.
Coalsack
MemberI'll still pick their male forms, no matter how much resets it'd take. They're prettier as guys, well, at least for me.
Furrin Gok
MemberPrimarina look the same regardless of gender. Meganiums barely have a difference, but I could understand prefering it one way more than the other.
BitFly
MemberThe only real reason it's like that is to make starters less easy to breed efficiently. Granted, there are ways to get around that, but still.

MemberXD When searched "Primarina Male" I wasn't expecting this, honestly, But it made my day nonetheless.
Daneasaur
MemberThere is an in-universe explanation for why the starters have this ratio.
The starter pokemon basically don't exist in the wild. Only in rare situations have you ever been able to catch ANY of the starter pokemon.
Why? Because in-universe, they are rare. Why are they rare? Because of the gender ratio and because Pokemon reproduce according to the species of the female.
If you had a group of Pidgy that were all male and a group of the same number of zubat that were all female and they reproduced, ALL the offspring would be zubat.
And if the gender ratio is as skewed as 87.5% male to 12.5% female, yeah, they aren't gonna be common. The males can reproduce with whatever is in their egg group, but the product will be a female of whatever they mated with, not the rare starter pokemon. (ditto is the only exception to this rule).
At the end of the day, like whichever gender you want, but the ratio does provide an explanation of why the starter pokemon are so rare.
Furrin Gok
MemberWe don't need a reason, though. If you really want to give one, say Team Bad Guys have been kidnapping them, and after the main story, by which point you can easily get a ditto anyways, they could then appear.
Furrin Gok
MemberTo clarify, I'm saying you can just make them not appear in the wild at all and I'd be fine with it.
Snowcone23
MemberNo. Their genderratio will forever be 87% male and 12% female. No matter how feminine they or/and their evolution look. Even though that's how the gender ratio works, this site doesn't give a single shit about it and draws them of how they look like.
