it's not gonna be moved to lore anytime soon, so why not
"alternate_species" isn't a species, so doesn't belong as a species tag, IMO. It's based on a visual trait of a character, like male is a trait of a character. If it's not going to be a lore tag, I see no problem with it staying as a general tag. Just as crossgender isn't a sex, alternate_species isn't a species or even a trait of a species.

I really don't like the alternate_* family of tags as general, since it's not at all something you can know without outside context. Species would be somewhat better, at least for this particular one.
I can see where you're coming from with this, but it doesn't quite work in my opinion. Alternate_species, as another has said, is not a species itself. It works more as a general tag.

One of the main arguments against it is that it doesn't fit lore. Lore is purely artist intent (it was a concession to artists), or as close as you get get to it (can't use lore tags on posts without any characters). Alternate_* brings in Canon (of the character), which is independent of artist intent
