Reason: Arguably, discussions are a subset of dialogue, but is there a need for a separate tag when the dialogue involves a back and forth? It seems mostly redundant.

I'd just preemptively remove it from those few posts. Even if the tag were kept I don't think it should be tagged on them, at least any more than dialogue should.
