Fursuit is a poor analogue for genetic engineering. Very poor.

Real furries use gene therapy.

That image is amazing.

"If you're part of a group you are not allowed to criticize other members of the group."

"Hey, I'm a Christian, and what the Westboro Baptist Church does is really offensive and goes against every Christian virtue, but I'm not allowed to speak out against it."

Fuck, I could Godwin this so hard with Hitler and how no German would be allowed to speak against nazi ideology because Hitler was a German.

The bottom line is, you're still allowed to critize other members of a group you belong to, the problem is just that it needs to be done in a more constructive way.

Much more dramatic example: this is one of the reasons police brutality and war crimes often go unpunished...

If you don't look at the screen, it sounds like the average inter-company sales meeting.

you do realize that furries don't understand the concept of constructive criticism, right

I tried to watch, I really really did, that squeaking really got on my nerves. Not to mention the fact I could pretty much smell the body odor and sweat wafting from my computer screen. Question though, anybody know where this was taken? A YouTube video says it was a panel at a con, but the OP link says it was a presentation for a class. Not to mention the fact that when they ask how many furries there are in the room, the answer is around 20.

This video is very cheesy but at least they had fun. I understand how they were trying to show that the furry fandom has an innocent side but they just ended up being to childish subjecting themselves to mockery.

On the one hand I feel guilty criticizing others. On the other hand I like things like cards against humanity and south park so my strategy is to leave you with this and leave this post.

2nd chick was talking about how hot the fursuit was...like really, a giant mascot suit indoors is hot? No way...

I watched it. It wasn't really that great of a presentation - they didn't have much focus, sorta skipped all around, repeated stuff quite a bit, and all that, but I don't get why everyone else is having so much trouble. It wasn't much different than many other such presentations.

Then again I've delivered speeches on far more taboo topics than the furry fandom, so I guess maybe it's a matter of perspective.

I cringed with the way they represented the fandom, but it seemed they solely focused on the more 'furry'-esque part of the fandom, aka fursuiters, rather than the furry fandom in general. Not all furries are... furry, per so. And the fact that 'furries' aren't a term used for technicalities, such as anthropomorhic animals. It's got that name for a reason. (Otherwise, you can compare this to CSI's representation of the Furry Fandom lol )

Plus the squeaking, the fact the presenters wore fursuits and made childish antics kinda made things a bit bad. They did seem to have fun though.

I don't know. I've seen other people try to address the topic of the furry fandom, and it seems that half the time their way of addressing is along the lines of "IT'S TOTALLY NOT A SEX THING GUYS, THAT'S A MISCONCEPTION."

Which ultimately ends up seeming like a suspiciously specific denial, and ends up being far more cringeworthy to me.

Either way, thanks for explaining why you found it so cringeworthy. I think I understand better now (though I still don't see it that way myself).
