Topic: Completely pointless tags

Posted under General

I understand its tag what you see, but its not tag literally everything down to a single pixel.
When its not the focus of the pic at all, and this applies even to characters that are shown to be distant to the point that you can just make out what it is, but barely. why tag it?
There are completely pointless and/or obviously incorrect tags such as putting a tag for 'avian' on a pics that have the little w shape in the sky that's 2pt font sized, Or one I just seen that involved two turians in the bathroom, absolutely no avian at all in the pic or any other species other than the turian's. So why the tag, idk!
There could be an ant on the vary bottom of the pic in the dirt drawn in the picture and someone will put multiple tags for that ant... come on guys don't do that.

I agree, something i really hate is when the pic is tagged Lactation and its literally just a bit of clear liquid on the nipples during some sex scene or something like that

I agree completely. I wouldn't be surprised if something covering this is in the tagging guidelines but people don't read them. That said,

Turians are avians...or at least have avian-like features according to the ME wiki, so I could see why someone would tag them as such.

The ambient_bird tag was made so these results didn't come up but at some point it ended up being implicated to bird anyway. I guess you can still try searching bird -ambient_bird

Gotta agree, this is specially annoying when you are trying to look up some arthropod smut(plz don't kink shame me ;-;), you end up with many images in which the only arthropod is a small barely visible bug in the background. Granted, most post WILL include an arthropod as the main focus, but a good portion of them won't.

As a dissent, you can't know what people will remember about an image. If I'm trying to find an image, and one thing I remember is there were birds in it, I want the search including avian to help me find it, not explicitly exclude it because the birds were smaller than I remembered. Or, if I don't like birds, like at all, and blacklist them, I wouldn't want some getting through because taggers considered them "too small" to tag. On top of that, different people will have different opinions on when something is relevant enough to tag. So it's better to just take the stance 'if you can see it, tag it'.

After the last big argument about Avali being tagged mammal it might be a better idea to restrict such tags to realworld species, or others which outright resemble realworld species.

Yeah probably. I can definitely see cases like turians being problematic in that regard.

Personally this doesn't bother me that much. There's always a combination of tags and exclusion that works closely to what you want, like someone mentioned the "avian -ambient_bird", although this still isn't a perfect solution and might cut some good results. TWYS is a good system overall but it does have its quirks. The one that gets the most under my skin is "animated" being applied to 2 frames images or a still image with blinking lighs, like, why...
