Topic: Questions on best practice for tagging characters with shared / generic names, and characters who have changed names

Posted under General

Hey, long time no see. I've kinda forgotten how to use the site so I'm asking for a refresher before I do some uploading. Also, sorry if I flubbed the tag search DText link formatting nearer the end.

First thing is that I'm going to be uploading some old art of my old character and some new art of my newer character and I'd like to get some relevant gender lore and character tags up and running in the process. Problem: both of my characters are called 'Lisa'. I understand that best practice is usually to put a character's owner next to their name to differentiate them, but here you have two characters with the same owner with the same name...and furthermore my name is Lisa too, and I understand that screws with some tag search scenarios, and also will make Jojo fans giggle seeing 'Lisa (Lisa)'. Even if you were to go by online handle, my handle here isn't the same as some other places, but that still leaves the problem of 'two characters, same owner, same name'. I've considered 'Lisa (feline humanoid)' and 'Lisa (tigress)' respectively, but again, my name is so generic there's obviously some other catgirl lisa and tigress lisa out there. What would be the best path forward?

In addition, my friend Arcanist Jakko appears in some of the art. Well, uh, sort of. Jakko, character and owner, go by Jezza now. How would that be handled? Just submit / ask her to submit an alias request?

Thanks in advance!

usually we tag characters with non-unique names with
name_(property) > name_(owner) > name_(species)
use the first one possible, unless it conflicts with another separate character with the same exact name from the same property/owner.

in the case where a character's name is changed it's best to request an alias of the old name to the current name, that way using either would work in a search but the current name is the name that shows up on the tag list.

Alright, so if I'm reading this right, because the two characters separately exist, I should resort to 'Lisa (tigress)' and 'Lisa (catgirl)' respectively?

As for the change, do I need to present anything or can I just post the request? I checked in with her on discord and she'd prefer an alias that's Arcanist_Jakko -> Magister_Jezza

That should work.

Just request an alias. In the unlikely event the mods need more, they'll contact you.
