Topic: Why are Forum Games not allowed?

Posted under General

I've seen some recent threads being locked because they were forum games; one in particular locked and it's OP given a record for being creepy; it got me thinking:

  • Why are forum games no longer allowed?
  • There used to have forum games; what made it no longer allowed in the first place? And,
  • Why has there been no category for Forum Games?

isn't the forum meant for discussion not fuckin around? By the sounds of it forum games sound like some sort of RP thing which is against site conduct if that is the case.

Nah. Forum games are things like "Would You Rather," where you post a pair of unpleasant fates (or, more rarely, two really good but mutually exclusive fates), then the next person to post has to answer which thing they'd rather have happen to them, then pose another pair of scenarios. This has, of course, since gone on to be adapted into a game-like website. There's also the word association one, where each poster posts the first word their mind reacts with, when they hear the word the last person posted.

Basically, forum games are all mindless fun, but very spammy and wasteful of space. Which, to answer Alex's question, is exactly why they're not allowed here.

Fair point on the "spam and waste of space" part.

And it's kinda an awkward timing for now to reply to this because the TV Tropes servers are down, and I don't know know any other sites that allow Forum Games.

Theyre annoying. Constantly bump to the top and take the place of actual discussion.

Theres no way that there can be a section for them either bc default sort shows all categories which compounds problem A.

No roleplaying bc there are private or community based places to do that. Have you considered Gaia online where people will care about roleplay?

E621's forums are a workspace rather than an anything goes place. Here, forum games interfere with and clutter up the more serious topics involved with the maintenance and function of the site, made worse by the fact that there is no good way to differentiate forum games and role play from alias/implication requests or discussion about whether tag X is a good idea or if it needs to be whacked with a mallet a few times. It also makes things easier on moderators who won't have to sort through pages after posts of drivel in case of inappropriate behavior.

In any case, there are a number of other, better places where such games are allowed and provided for.

More than that. Anti-boredom and anti-stress. But since Forum Games aren't allowed here, then I'll stick to TV Tropes, as they're back up again.

I guess what I should have said is "why forum games in particular"?

May I ask why you have a burning need to play forum games?

I don't. I just noticed 'em. I guess they can be fun sometimes.

I mainly just played 'em on Gaia Online, and that's still another viable alternative. *shrug*

I'm sorry, I had replied to you when I meant to reply to AlexYorim.

To answer your question, curiousity reasons, anti-stress and anti boredom. But since forum games are not allowed here, and TV Tropes does, and TV Tropes is back up again, I'll stick to TV Tropes.

Paheal or .xxx? I don't know if either boorus have anti-creepy measures in their forums there, considering the vitriolic anonymous comments of both.

Already been brought up but Gaia online.

I never played on Gaia Online, but my brother used to visit there.

But since I don't want this thread to devolve into a Gaia Online discussion, since I last time I know about it is that the original owners have improved the site and lowered the inflation prices.

Anyway, any more boorus that allow Forum Games? And to repeat on what Crystali has said, Paheal or .xxx?

Forum games used to be allowed. They had literally thousands of posts and people were even less likely to pay attention to tag discussion threads and such. And despite all the posts they got only a small number of people used them more than one or two times.

That's one way to add up to it...
