Topic: Any plans/projects for an offline searchable backup of all approved images and tags?

Posted under General

Has anyone here endevoured to make a reletively apocalypse resistant partial or complete backup of this site’s contents (not counting work that was removed on request)? From a historical standpoint, there is some merit in preserving all of this in some manner so that future generations in a mad max universe or some shit can search through it and wonder what the hell happened in the before times or something like that.

I would assume that it would be no small feat given its tagging system and online nature, but I think it would be a vailiant thing to preserve both the good and bad of all of this for the future

Plenty of people have downloaded all of the images from e621. If you want something quick and easy, I believe hydrus is the best tool for that. I keep my own mirror of posts and tags from e621 with a tool you can find here . There is no documentation because I am lazy, and there is a lot of setup you might have to go through to get it running. I do not do it to archive stuff though. For some projects it is just faster, more convenient, and less stressful on the servers to keep a local mirror.
