Topic: Can we increase penalty on sexual tagging neglect?

Posted under General

I feel it should be required that the type of sex going on at least is tagged by the uploader, or the uploader's privileges otherwise be suspended temporarily. We've got some great people here that upload tons and tag properly, so I really don't think it would effect the amount of content on here if things got stricter.

Things I have blacklisted like male/male, cub or feral pop up at least three times per page in new posts every time I come here to fap. I don't feel it's a stretch if you're uploading gay porn to at least type "gay" before you hit submit. It's lazy, required everywhere else, and probably affects a lot of users' experience. If we require s,q,e to be tagged by uploader, can we add a requirement on tags like:

anthro/
cub
intersex/
female/
feral/
human
loli
male/
shota

-1, considering that e6 really only requires people to tag 4 valid tags, faulting someone for forgetting to tag something isn't really a right course of action. Things on this list I also get annoyed when it isn't tagged, but all you can reasonably do in said situation is politely remind the uploader of said forgotten tags.

First problem is figuring out what tags count towards something of penalty as that would be highly subjective.

Also we are going to go with carrot approach first, the new upload form which is also default form in new beta site, has buttons specifically for tagging sex and specific field to remind uploader of possibly contentious content that they should tag.

Hey, good idea. Let's further discourage artists from uploading their own work to e621 by formalizing the already-extensive punishment they receive for not going through the bible of highly pedantic and frequently controversial tags and applying them all exhaustively and accurately.

Foreign artists? What are those? Artists only speak English.

I'd err on the side of caution myself since new uploaders (not always the artists themselves) might be confused as to why their momentary slip-up lands them a record or a verbal telling-off instead of a gentle reminder. I usually just correct the tags but it's reasonable that some not so familiar with the tagging system might be upset they were ever shown the image. I've had that before myself in the past, and still occasionally do.

Accurate tagging is helpful on many fronts, so that's a misuse of the word "pedantic" unless you have examples of what about the tagging requirements is pedantic. People aren't keen on seeing certain images because they have different tastes, and if some particularly nasty image has no tags/blatantly incorrect tagging in order to game the system and dodge blacklists, it becomes a problem. The rules state a single mistag isn't worth a ban; only if the person continues mistagging images afterwards are actions taken against them. The taggers are given ample opportunity to improve tagging habits, and if they don't, then that's on them. Even, for example, tagging a single image with dicksdicksdicks_you_suuuuck wouldn't get you a ban, and at most you would be given a neutral record if it follows a habit, and you aren't a repeat offender (i.e. multiple records). I wouldn't call that "pedantic", even for a second.

Sometimes, the reasons artists go DNP has nothing to do with the tagging system or the artist themselves, so I'll leave it at that for that point, so as not to go too off-topic.

You know, there might be reason why some boorus actually disallow artists from uploading themselves.

These kind of sites aren't for sharing content, but to index and archive them, meaning that tagging and sourcing is actually as big of a deal as the content itself. Without that, we would be yet another gallery page for artists and porn sharing site for everyone else and it's not like there's already thousand of those and more coming and everyone having their own discord servers as well.

We are actually also raising the minimum tag requirement on new uploads around the same time new site goes live, so the requirements for tagging are constantly raising, not lowering. However we do already provide tons of documentation which you can simply read and learn before uploading anything and many artists upload their own content without any issues.
