Topic: I have my first doujinshi! I need some information about sharing

Posted under General

Hello everyone!

As in the title, I have my first doujinshi!

Is called "FOX DAYS" and after reading it, I think is worth sharing to the internet.

But I need informations about when(theres like a date to calculate?), how(I scan it at 300dpi or more?) and most important IF I can share it to the net.

I got so many questions and with the addition that I don't know Japanese language, my personal idea is a confusing mess.

Can you please tell me more about it this copyright-sharing stuff?

Thank you kindly in advance!

Pay content is DNP. This includes scans.
If the artists releases scans or other stuff officially for free, and they are not on avoid_posting, then feel free to upload it.

You mean scans of all the pages or most of them? And only one artist of who partecipated the comic of all of them?

Any page that is not available freely and publicly.

So, if I understand well, any page that is posted freelya and publicly by ONE OF THE ARTISTS of the comic, is allowed to be posted on e621.

I forgot to write the important word.
So to rephrase, "Any page that is made available freely and publicly by the owner."

In your case, if one artist made whole comic available we can only ASSUME other artists are ok with it as they had to agree on making it together in the first place.
But generally no, as we do not know if content that is not owned by the person posting it is pirated.

Got it! Thank you!

What about scanning? In case the artist post the comic but is a lower resolution, how I should scan my comic? 300dpi or 600dpi?

Another thing, is good if my scanned image is better resolution but it got the page "deformation"?

Higher resolution is always better. Scan your pages to a lossless format too if your scanner can do that. I don’t know exactly what the “deformation” is but many small “deformations” can be fixed in photoshop.

If only a lower resolution is publically available, the higher resolution is considered pay content.

Only post the publicly available version, even if it means it's of lower resolution/quality. Anything not available to the general public, such as highest quality and resolution, are considered pay content, as furrin gok said

You buy the comic, so that would be Pay Content I guess.

I have doubts.....is this thing written in the rules of e621 or is a supposition?

The “deformation” is the middle curvature between pages. Also, png format is good?

if you have to pay to access to the higher resolution, its pay content and not allowed. you are allowed to post only what content owners have made publicly available by themselves. this is not rocket science.

I will repeat what's already been said:

If BobFox uploads an 800x600 picture to his furaffinity, twitter, and deviant art, and a 1600x1200 to his patreons, the 1600x1200 version is pay content. Do not upload the 1600x1200. It's paycontent. Only the 800x600 is allowed.

Similarly, if he uploads a clothed version to FA and a naked version to patreon, you cannot upload the patreon version. It's pay content.

If you have to pay to see it, it's pay content.

Yeah, but the effect of that curvature varies.
For example

  • that curvature can cause the actual content (area of the scan which has comic content rather than blank space) to be deformed
  • If that content deformation is simple skewing/ parallellograming, you can fix it with an image editor.
  • If the content deformation is curved (a line that is straight on the page comes out curved in the scan), then it's not that easy to fix and you're probably better off scanning that page again.
  • A moderate amount of darkening on the side, caused by deformation, is acceptable, AFAIK. If the darkening noticably distracts from the content, that is less acceptable.

Scanlation projects generally use scans without deformation, this is done by first slicing the pages out. Not to say that you should do this -- but it does illustrate that dealing with deformation can be tedious.

Also, png format is good?

It's a fine default. In some cases high quality jpg can be better for upload, but this depends on the scan resolution and the type of illustration, some experimentation would be required to be sure about your particular case.
