I'll wait for day when FA gets nuked, because I'm almost done seeing 1280px JPG files, source being FA, saying original url was PNG, then take two seconds from my time and find ten times larger PNG image on other site, posted by artist themselves.

Tbh i think that 1280xwhatever is fine most of the time (assuming 4:3 ratio etc etc). But i also have a tiny monitor as my primary for games/draw (1366x768, other monitor is a hdtv at 16oox1200 or other) and have a thing about worring about file size
