I don't understand why it's considered acceptable behavior to alter an artist's copyrighted work and post it on e621. Even if the person who changes the image gives credit to the original artist, that artist may not know about the edit, may not approve of it, or may not want their name on it. It's not their work as they originally envisioned and created it. Current example, with admission of changes in the description:

especially when there's no significant improvement over the original(s) — mixing&matching variations, editing out piercings and background characters, etc. — like, why bother? particularly, why bother sharing it publicly and risk disgruntling the artist

on the other hand i have seen some edits which turn an average, unpolished picture into a masterpiece, so i wouldn't want to ban edits entirely …
